How to record a Canva presentation in Chrome

Record a Canva presentation in Chrome with Showesome — share the Canva tab, narrate with your mic, spotlight a slide with Focus Mode, and export MP4 locally.

How to record a Canva presentation in Chrome

Yes — you can record a Canva presentation in Chrome. Open the deck in a Chrome tab, start Showesome, share that tab, narrate with your microphone, and use Focus Mode to spotlight a chart or line of text. Export MP4 locally.

This is the Canva sibling of record a Google Slides presentation in Chrome. Canva also has Present and record, which uploads the take to Canva. The steps below keep the file on your device.

Canva’s talking presentations help says Present and record runs on a computer, creates a public view link with the recording, and shares long recordings as a link instead of an export. Delete that view link in Canva when the deck should stay private. Talking Presentations, including Present and record, is temporarily unavailable in India.

1. Open the deck and choose a view

  1. Open the design in Chrome. One deck per window keeps the tab picker obvious.
  2. Choose the view you will record:
    • Present — full-screen slides. Share that Chrome tab.
    • Editor — thumbnails stay visible while you narrate. Share the same tab.
    • Presenter view — Canva opens an audience window and a notes window. Share the audience window so speaker notes stay off the recording.

2. Pick Screen Only or Screen + Camera

Click the Showesome icon and choose a mode:

Mode Best for
Screen Only The deck on its own — a lesson, a pitch, or an async update
Screen + Camera Face and slides together — recording modes
Camera Only A talking-head intro, not the slide walkthrough

Turn the microphone on and confirm you are not muted. Record your screen with audio.

3. Share the Canva tab

  1. Click Start Recording.
  2. In Choose what to share, select Chrome tab.
  3. Pick the tab with your design (Canva, titled with the presentation).
  4. For Presenter view, pick the audience tab or window instead of the notes window.
  5. Enable Also share tab audio only when the slide plays music, video, or another sound.
  6. Click Share.

4. Narrate and spotlight the slide

  • Advance slides with the keyboard or click. Your voice is the microphone track.
  • Pause with Alt+Shift+P without ending the take — keyboard shortcuts.
  • Focus Mode: double-tap Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows/Linux), then click a chart, line of text, or image. Showesome spotlights and zooms that target while you record. Esc or a second double-tap returns to the full slide.

  2. Open Recordings History and preview the clip. Where recordings are saved.
  3. Convert to MP4, then Download MP4. Convert WebM to MP4 in Chrome.
  4. Upload to Classroom, Drive, or YouTube only if you want a copy there. Preview and optional cloud.

Can I record a Canva presentation without Showesome?

Yes. Canva’s Present and record uploads the take and can download an MP4 from that screen. OBS records the desktop. Loom gives you a hosted link. Showesome fits a local MP4, no watermark, and Focus Mode during capture — see choosing a screen recorder.

Do I need tab audio for a normal Canva deck?

Usually no. Narration comes from the microphone. Enable Also share tab audio when the slide plays music, video, or another sound you need in the file.

Should I use Canva’s Present and record instead?

Use Present and record when the recording should live in Canva and you want its view link. Use Showesome when you want the MP4 on your device, a separate file for each section, or Focus Mode on the chart you are explaining. You can still upload that MP4 to Drive, YouTube, or a Classroom assignment afterward.

Quick checklist

  1. Open the design in Chrome → Present, editor, or Presenter view.
  2. Showesome → Screen Only or Screen + Camera → mic on.
  3. Start Recording → Chrome tab → the Canva tab (audience window in Presenter view).
  4. Narrate; double-tap Cmd/Ctrl and click a chart or line of text for Focus Mode.
  5. Stop → preview → export MP4.
